Hackney Wick in east London has been crowned the ‘coolest’ place to live in London, according to a new survey.

The area came out top on a Naturecan poll of 5,000 people, dubbing it the trendiest spot in the capital.

The arty location is known for its great pubs, cafes and for boasting some great public spaces.

It’s even been used to film for the likes of Netflix’s Bridgerton and the James Bond movie, Die Another Day.

Hackney Wick offers residents and visitors a selection of craft breweries and bars along the River Lee Navigation canal.

You also get quick access to nearby Victoria Park, as well as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in neighbouring Stratford.

This places it within walking distance to other Olympic venues such as the London Aquatics Centre and West Ham United’s home – the London Stadium.

The area is also home to a large number of professional creatives, artists and musicians.

Attracted in part by the low cost studio spaces that became available with the decline of its industrial past, notable artists have included Banksy, Paul Noble and Fantich and Young.

The area has seen the onset of rapid gentrification since the early 2010s, in part due to the now well-established artist scene.

Other favoured parts of London included Spitalfields, which came in second, followed by Walthamstow, Tottenham and Brixton, in fifth place.

Hackney Wick was also placed 25th out of 50 on the national list of the coolest places to live in the UK.

Each location was ranked by factors such as the number of independent shops per head, range of cultural events and how attractive the area is on social media.

Coastal fishing village Polperro in Cornwall was named the coolest place to live in the UK, with Wells-Next-The-Sea in Norfolk second and Marlow in Buckinghamshire in third.

Naturecan’s chief executive Andy Duckworth said: ‘What is interesting is how influential Instagram has become in boosting tourism in many of our top 50.

‘It is a massive help for visitor numbers, too, if a popular film or TV show uses London as a location.

‘Hidden gems which are largely only visited by local tourists can find themselves being showcased throughout the world if they are pictured by the right influencer or featured in a movie.’
