Transformers: Beast Wars Finally Delivers Its First Casualties – and They’re Big
In Transformers: Beast Wars #11, the war between the Maximals and Predacons heats up as both sides suffer major and crucial casualties.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Transformers: Beast Wars #11, on sale now from IDW Publishing.
The battles in the Beast Wars comic book have so far been pretty evenly matched, with both the Maximals and Predacons delivering some pretty vital blows. The story has also stayed fairly close to that of the animated series, however, with very little in way of divergences beyond a few extra characters. With the series’ newest issue, however, that quickly changes as the stakes reach a violent new height.
IDW’s Beast Wars #11 (by Eric Burnham and Josh Burcham) sees crucial casualties for both the Maximals and Predacons, intensifying both the battle over the Golden Disk and the tension between the two groups. This proves that no one is safe when it comes to the fallout of the Beast Wars, but it could also point to these wars wrapping up sooner than some may expect.
Which Beast Wars Transformers IDW Kills Off
Picking up from the previous issue’s events, the latest part of the story sees Optimus Primal and the Maximals directly attacking Megatron and his Predacons. This follows their warnings from Dinobot that Megatron has the stolen Golden Disk in his possession, making the results of the ensuing fracas do or die as far as Primal is concerned.
Even with the element of surprise, the Maximals refuse to do more damage to the Predacons than necessary, a point which Razorbeast brings up with his Predacon friend Skold. Unfortunately, Terrorsaur takes it upon himself to disrupt a change of spark among his comrade, using his power of flight in beast mode to swoop in and carry Razorbeast off. Throwing him into a floating mountain of unstable raw energon crystal, Terrorsaur causes Razorbeast’s seeming death from the resulting explosion.
Skold is mortified at what the pterodactyl Predacon did, and when he tries to boss her around as if she’s simply a dumb lummox, she retaliates by violently avenging Razorbeast. Using her incredible strength, she rips Terrorsaur’s spark out of his chest, destroying the robot.
Why are the Stakes of IDW’s Beast Wars Rising So Fast?
The introduction of the Golden Disk as a major plot point in the second season of the original Beast Wars cartoon. The fact that it’s already a big deal in the comics shows how events are ramping up a lot faster than they did in the show, and may already be heading toward a climax. After all, the stakes are anything but low if Razorbeast, a relatively obscure Beast Wars Transformer who was introduced in the comic only a few issues before, is now likely dead. The same goes for Terrorsaur being offlined so quickly, since, even though he didn’t make it past the second season’s first episode, he was still a major player throughout the first.
The quickening pace of events may also sadly stem from the happenings involving the comic book rights to Transformers and other Hasbro properties, which may not be at IDW for much longer. This means that the planned storyline for the Beast Wars comic book could be wrapping up a lot sooner than initially anticipated. To get to a more epic and conclusive ending, the creative team will likely kill off as many Maximals and Predacons as possible, proving that this iteration of the Beast Wars is the most violent version yet.
