Transfer news LIVE – Tuesday July 20

  • Manchester United are edging towards signing Raphael Varane
  • Paul Pogba has reportedly agreed terms with PSG
  • Liverpool have sold Marko Grujic to Porto
  • Tottenham are closing in on their first two summer signings

Man Utd’s Griezmann aproach

11:45am: Manchester United are set to make a move for Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann provided certain conditions are met, reports suggest.

Barca are desperate to offlaod Griezmann this summer due to his extortionate wages.

The Catalans are in astronomical debt, and need to sell players before they can register new signings or – crucially – Lionel Messi.

And United will apparently make an approach if they believe certain conditions are met.

Paul Pogba close to PSG agreement

11:30am: Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is said to be close to agreeing personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain over a potential move this summer.

The Frenchman is closing in on a move to the Parc des Princes following talks between his agent Mino Raiola and Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director.

PSG are eager to sign Pogba and are said to be willing to sell players in order to let him go.

Reports elsewhere suggest they believe they can secure his signature for just £43m.

Liverpool confirm Marko Grujic deal

11.15am: Liverpool have completed a deal to sell Marko Grujic to Porto.

Grujic, who was Jurgen Klopp’s first signing at the club in 2016, barely played for the Reds and failed to find his feet on Merseyside.

The midfielder has now left in a deal worth a reported £10.5million.

Liverpool are eager to sell players to raise funds, and are set to offload Taiwo Awoniyi next in a deal worth £7m.

Borussia Dortmund spend Jadon Sancho cash

10.30am: Borussia Dortmund have started spending the money they’ve received from Manchester United for Jadon Sancho, and have completed a deal for Paris Saint-Germain youngster Abdoulaye Kamara.

The midfielder, 16, is the second youngter to leave PSG after coming through the academy, following Soumala Coulibaly.

United are yet to officially confirm the arrival for Sancho, but the forward has already jetted off on holiday following the completion of a medical and personal terms.

Kamara has signed a long-term contract with Dortmund.

PSG hold Paul Pogba belief

10am: Paris Saint-Germain believe they can sign Paul Pogba for just £43million this summer – half the whopping £89m Manchester United paid for him in 2016.

The Parisiens have gone all-out to build Mauricio Pochettino a Champions League-winning squad and have already completed moves for Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos and Georginio Wijnaldum, and are now said to be interested in Pogba.

The French midfielder is reportedly interested in moving to PSG, and his agent Mino Raiola ha already engaged in talks with PSG sporting director Leonardo while discussing other moves.

And PSG apparently feel they can get him for a reduced fee due to the fact he’ll be out of contract in a year.

Liverpool plot contract talks

9am: Liverpool are planning to give long-term contracts to five first-team players in order to avoid a repeat of Goerginio Wijnaldum’s exit.

Jordan Henderson is still in talks over a new deal, but those talks aren’t advanced and there’s a fear on Merseyside that he could leave.

Liverpool are now planning to give bumper new deals to Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho.

Henderson’s future remains up in the air as the club captain enters into the final two years of his current deal.

Varane transfer edging closer

8am: Manchester United are getting closer and closer to securing a deal for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

The French centre-back, who has spent a decade at the Bernabeu, has now told the club he wants to leave, reports state.

Varane is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target after securing a deal for Jadon Sancho, and it seems the interest is mutual.

The defender is said to have decided he wants to test himself in the Premier League and move to Old Trafford.

Leicester close in on first Benitez signing

7.30am: Demarai Gray is set to undergo a medical at Everton ahead of a £1.5million move to Goodison Park. The Bayer Leverkusen winger, formerly of Leicester City, will become Rafael Benitez’s first signing at the club.

Gray was once considered one of England’s best young wingers, but was unable to find his feet at the King Power Stadium prior to his move to Germany.

Asmir Begovic is set to follow Gray through the doors at Goodison, as is Andros Townsend.

The Toffees are also looking at deals for Denzel Dumfries, Dwight McNeil and Matheus Nunes.

Tottenham double deal

7am: Tottenham are set to complete their first two signings of the Nuno Espirito Santo era in Atalanta duo Cristiano Romero and Pierluigi Gollini, according to reports.

Defender Romero spent last season on loan at Atalanta from Juventus and Atalanta will make the move permanent for a fee of around £13.8million (€16m).

Football.london claims Atalanta will then sell Romero for a sizeable profit and Spurs will also sign goalkeeper Gollini too.

Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, who can play at centre-back and at right-back, also remains a target for the north Londoners.

Haaland’s Chelsea decision

6.30am: Erling Haaland has reportedly told his close associates that he will remain at Borussia Dortmund for at least another year, in a fresh blow to the transfer plans of Chelsea, who are eager to sign him this summer.

Haaland is believed to have told friends and representatives that he will stay at Dortmund until his £64million release clause kicks in next year, according to ESPN

The Norwegian turns 21 this week and understands that he still has plenty of time in his career to complete a big-money move to the Premier League or elsewhere.

Chelsea had been hoping to make Haaland their next big signing as they seek a prolific new frontman to fire them into title contention.
