Mohan Singh’s family requested that the Black Caps-Afghanistan T20 World Cup clash in Abu Dhabi proceed despite the Zayed Cricket Stadium’s chief curator’s death.
Singh, who had worked for Abu Dhabi Cricket for 15 years, died a few hours before the game was scheduled to start last night.

Indian newspapers said Singh had been to the ground earlier in the day to inspect the pitch. After he failed to return, he was found dead in his room.
An International Cricket Council (ICC) statement said the cause of his death “remains unknown”.
It stated that the game – won by the Black Caps by eight wickets – went ahead “at the request of Abu Dhabi Cricket, the ground staff and Mohan’s family”.
“We are deeply saddened and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, Abu Dhabi Cricket and everyone connected with the event,” the ICC statement said.
In a tribute, Abu Dhabi Cricket said: “Mohan has been with Abu Dhabi Cricket for 15 years and has played a pivotal role in all of the venue’s success during that time. Tributes to Mohan and his incredible achievements will be honoured in the coming days.”
Mohan Singh had worked with BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) chief curator Daljit Singh in Mohali before moving to the United Arab Emirates in the early 2000s.
