Tourists slam top UK destination as ‘not worth the money’

From the Lake District to Stonehenge, the UK has many incredible tourist destinations. But there are a couple of hotspots that have left visitors less than impressed.

A tourist ‘JLaw118’ wrote on Reddit that Land’s End was the British destination that they found “disappointing”.

They said: “Went with my girlfriend last year and it was just a cash cow. Expensive parking, cafes, gift shops and even to get a picture of the sign they wanted to charge! Got a sneaky picture of it and left. Absolutely not worth the money.”

Land’s End is a headland in western Cornwall which is the most westerly point of mainland England.

It’s one of Britain’s leading landmarks and tourists should be able to see the Isles of Scilly from the top of the cliffs on a clear day.

However, the leading landmark was slammed by visitors with tourists charged to take a photo with the sign.

‘Dazzling-Wash9086’ said: “I went there about 25 years ago and it was nothing like that. Amazing how greed is the root of all ruin in today’s world.”

Another person recommended Lizard Point, the most southerly part of the British mainland, as an alternative destination.

Stonehenge had also left some visitors disappointed with one commenter, ‘Daisy5915’, saying: “What a total waste of money.”

It costs £23.60-£26 for a standard adult ticket to the English Heritage run site while families can get a discount on a group ticket.

Tickets cost less on off-peak days while they cost more in peak season, which is generally weekends in summer.

Despite the fee, not every commenter thought it was a waste of money with some saying the charge was necessary.

One commenter said: “I’d prefer to pay £26 once ever perhaps to see it, have access to the visitors’ centre and fund the maintenance of the site.”

A World Heritage Site, Stonehenge is an incredible monument created by people during the Neolithic and Bronze Ages.
