Tottenham’s star-studded XI if Jay-Z buys club and pumps £175m in
Music mogul Jay-Z is looking at the possibility of purchasing Tottenham if current owner Joe Lewis is convicted of fraud and insider trading. The rap icon is keeping his eyes peeled over developments but as Daily Express US has revealed, he has backing from a group of American investors to take over the north London club. They would be looking to make a big impression, likely next year rather than 2023, and Express Sport has looked at how £175million could be invested in a stunning new team for boss Ange Postecoglou.
Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario
Spurs brought in Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli after it was decided that they would move on from Hugo Lloris, as the club captain is in discussions with teams in order to negotiate a move away from north London. After pulling out of discussions for Brentford’s David Raya, Vicario was quickly chosen as the key target and Spurs paid £17.2m to the Serie A outfit.
It remains to be seen whether Vicario can compete at the level of his Premier League counterparts but Jay Z and co would likely wait to see how the situation develops before committing further money to that goalkeeper spot.
Defence: Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Edmond Tapsoba, Destiny Udogie
Postecoglou’s current dilemma is at the heart of his defence, with the club looking at a number of options including Edmond Tapsoba, Micky van de Ven and Marc Guehi, but they are struggling to get a deal over the line and concerns have been raised that Cristian Romero may not get a new partner for the season.
It could be an area that Jay-Z revisits and with Tapsoba deemed the preferred target, though a high fee has prohibited further negotiations this summer, an influx from the man with a net worth over £1.95billion could hand Bayer Leverkusen their asking price of £35m to part ways with their star man.
Midfield: James Maddison, Yves Bissouma, Conor Gallagher
Spurs have already moved to improve their midfield as Postecogolu attempts to switch to a 4-3-3 system for the coming season, having signed James Maddison in a £40m transfer. However, more additions would almost certainly be welcomed amid uncertainty in the middle of the pitch.
Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has been of interest previously and the Blues are open to a sale, as there are hopes Yves Bissouma will enjoy a better second season at the club while similar feelings will be had for Rodrigo Bentancur as he will look to get back to his best after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament – with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg also potentially leaving the club, a £40m deal for Gallagher may be on Jay-Z’s agenda.
Attack: Dejan Kulusevski, Victor Osimhen, Son Heung-min
Harry Kane is looking increasingly likely to depart north London, be it this summer if Bayern Munich can agree on a fee, or in 12 months’ time when his contract expires. Should it be the latter, although they would lose out on a fee, it would allow Jay-Z and his group the opportunity to pick their preferred replacement.
Victor Osimhen tore up Serie A with Napoli on their way to the title but clubs had been priced out of a move this summer. If he remains in Italy for another year, he would likely be the top striker available in 2024 as Spurs are looking for a replacement – £100m could be enough to land the Nigerian sensation.
