Tottenham may anger Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia again by joining transfer race

Tottenham could risk souring an already bitter relationship between transfer chiefs Daniel Levy and Marina Granovskaia if they enter the race to sign Chelsea target Lorenzo Insigne. Levy and Granovskaia are supposedly not on talking terms after a series of frosty altercations in the past, and a common target should do little to help build bridges.

Insigne’s contract situation at Napoli is still well and truly up in the air as wage demands remain a key issue.

Napoli are an historic club with a passionate fanbase, but they ultimately cannot compete with the financial might of Europe’s other heavyweights.

That is where Premier League big guns like Spurs and Chelsea could come in.

They would have to table some offer, however, as the Italian was born and bred in Naples and has spent his entire career contracted to the club.

All that Spurs and Chelsea can do in the meantime is keep tabs on his situation until, or indeed if he decides to commit his future to the Italian side.

If he did make himself available, it could spark an epic battle between two transfer chiefs who reportedly do not see eye-to-eye.

The extent of their dislike for one another has left their communication limited strictly to emails rather than phone calls or face-to-face chats, according to The Athletic.

Levy is notoriously difficult to negotiate with in the transfer market, as shown by Manchester City’s failed pursuit of supposed wantaway Harry Kane this summer.

He would therefore pose a stern test for Chelsea to overcome if both clubs attempted to make a move for Insigne in January.

The ace up Spurs’ sleeve lies in the ready-made vacancy on their right-wing.

The north London side have been waiting for a top-class winger to complete their terrifying trio alongside Kane and Heung-min Son, although nobody has convincingly stepped up to the plate as yet.

Competition at Stamford Bridge would presumably be more difficult with a host of talented wingers already vying for minutes.

Insigne could be the star of a blockbuster transfer battle waiting to happen, although it all hangs on whether he intends to sign a new deal out in Italy.
