Tottenham chief Daniel Levy risks Antonio Conte wrath as £15m Adama Traore bid ‘rejected’
Tottenham chief Daniel Levy has risked his relationship with manager Antonio Conte over the signings of promised transfer targets, after reports suggested a derisory £15million bid for Wolves star Adama Traore was turned down.
Conte joined Tottenham in November after the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo, who had lost five out of his last seven PRemier League games in the dugout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Fans were extremely pleased upon his arrival given that the enigmatic Italian had won the Serie A title and the Premier League title with Inter Milan and Chelsea respectively in the past five years.
However certain promises were reportedly made to Conte by Lilywhites’ chief Daniel Levy upon his arrival – mainly concerning transfers in order for the perennial winner to shape his team.
Links with Wolves winger Traore have become prominent in recent months, with a fee of £20million being touted given that the Spaniard has just 18 months left on his contract.
But according to the Telegraph, a bid for Traore has been submitted by the north London outfit – only for it to be rejected as it fell £5m short, with the price-haggling likely to anger Conte.
The report states that Tottenham have identified Traore as their priority signing for the current window, with Conte keen to use him in the right wing-back position.
Emerson Royal has failed to flatter since his £26m move from Barcelona in the summer, leaving Conte largely in need of a replacement for the Brazilian.
£20m for an experienced Premier League winger could be considered relatively cheap, especially with the potential that 25-year-old Traore could unlock under Conte.
But after Wolves’ strict £20m valuation wasn’t met, it appears Conte could become flummoxed by the club’s inability to complete deals.
Conte left Inter over the summer due to transfer budget disagreements, despite winning their first Serie A title in eleven seasons.
Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez fired the Nerazzurri to the title, but Conte’s departure came just three weeks after securing the title following his inability to strengthen the rest of the team.
Tottenham are in the hunt for a striker, a wing-back and a midfielder if Giovanni Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele leave the club this winter.
And after bitter rivals Arsenal reportedly drew ahead in their attempt to sign Fiorentina striker Duvan Vlahovic, Conte will be livid at Levy not stumping up the extra £5m for Traore which would instantly improve his squad.
