Toronto police investigate fireworks released at end of concert at Scotiabank Arena

Toronto police are investigating after fireworks were thrown indoors at the end of Wednesday’s Dua Lipa concert at the city’s Scotiabank Arena.

Police said they received reports about the incident shortly before midnight. They said three people had minor injuries and were seen by medics working at the venue.

“This remains an active investigation, anyone with information is encouraged to contact police,” the force said, noting that there was no property damage.

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, which owns and operates the venue, said “unauthorized and illegal fireworks were set off on the arena floor by a member of the audience.”

MLSE said it takes safety at its venues seriously.

“Creating a safe and secure venue for every attendee at Scotiabank Arena is MLSE’s top priority and we immediately began working in co-operation with (the Toronto Police Service) to fully investigate this reckless and dangerous act,” the organization wrote in a statement.

“We thank (police), the on-site medical team, employees and concert attendees for their swift support in responding to this incident.”

Investigators are working with security at the arena to view video surveillance. No suspects have been identified.
