Looking to plump up your wallet post-Christmas?

Well, you might have the solution right under your nose.

You could make hundreds of pounds just by selling unused items from around the home, according to eBay.

The resale platform analysed prices fetched for common household goods and has ranked them to show how money can be made from items you no longer need, or that you were lucky enough to have upgraded over Christmas.

Bicycles topped the list with sale prices averaging at £284, followed by tablets at £171 and video games consoles at £158.

They found that vacuum cleaners could nab you roughly £86, while hair dryers and smartwatches earned sellers £70 and £124 respectively.

Bringing up the rear, air beds (£40), Christmas trees (£38) and juicers (£36) could also be a way to turn rarely-used items into extra cash.

According to eBay’s research, conducted by Opinium, almost half of us are making New Year’s resolutions around saving money, and 47% feel apprehensive about the New Year because of money issues.

Looking to your cupboards could turn your January declutter – which comes with its own mind-cleansing benefits – into a financial boost, too.

For the month of January, those making their first sale on eBay won’t have to pay selling fees for that listing.

A spokesperson for eBay UK said: ‘Over the past few months, many of us have had to turn down plans or put them on hold due to the increasing cost of living making us reconsider where we spend.

‘This is why we’re launching the ReSELLution in January – a movement designed to get the nation decluttering and making some extra cash post-Christmas.’

Now where’s that old ping pong table…?
