Too Hot To Handle star admits he’s ‘glad he didn’t win’ Netflix show

Too Hot To Handle star Seb Melrose, 25 has opened up about his exciting reunion with girlfriend Kayla Richart, 22, after the pair previously left fans devastated with the news of their split back in December. The Scottish racing driver also gave his thoughts on his couple finishing as runners-up on the Netflix show after it was announced at the same time last year that series winners Jawahir Khalifa and Nick Kici had broken up.

At the end of last year, the show’s fans were shocked to hear that the Season 4 champions had gone their separate ways, with model Jawahir lamenting that Nick had “broken her heart”.

Meanwhile, Seb and Kayla explained that they had been forced to go their separate ways due to the strain of a long-distance relationship set between the UK and Los Angeles.

However, the pair have thankfully since reunited, leading some fans to wonder if the show’s runners-up should have been the winners.

Nevertheless, Seb explained why he thought the outcome actually worked out “for the best”.

“You know what, looking at what’s happened, potentially I think we should have won,” Seb reasoned.

“But I’m actually glad we didn’t,” he added, explaining he felt the response from fans had been “way better” as a result.

He went on to speak about how coming in second had actually been a positive for both of them, as it has helped to take the pressure off.

“I feel like obviously, since we didn’t win, there’s nobody that can come in and say, ‘Oh, you guys shouldn’t have won!’” he said.

This makes them the most-followed couple of season 4 while, in comparison, series winners Jawahir and Nick have 358,000 and 212,000 followers respectively.

Meanwhile, the star to get the biggest following overall was Peruvian actress Flavia Laos Urbina, who accumulated five million followers before going on to win 2022’s Latin Influencer of the Year award.

Seb sounded loved-up as he discussed his relationship with Kayla, explaining: “We’ve patched things up and we’re just seeing where things go. It’s all kind of exciting and – I don’t want to let too much out of the bag right now – but everything is going really well.”

“We’re taking it as it comes, really. It’s not easy having a relationship that’s in the spotlight; it feels like everyone’s always got their opinion,” he added. “But right now we’re doing well and we’re just trying to see each other as much as we possibly can with the long distance.”

Asked if he could see himself moving in with Kayla, be it in UK or Los Angeles, he said: “Yeah I think it potentially would be [on the cards]. We’ve had those discussions, but I think we need to get at least a year out of the way.

“I’ve got a couple of businesses that I’m working on, she’s working on the influencer stuff that she’s actually doing really well with.”

The sportsman insisted that moving in “could not happen this year”, as he continued: “I wouldn’t let her come to the UK when she’s doing so well in the US and I can’t come to the US because of the commitments I’ve got in the UK.”

Outside of his Netflix fame, Seb is best known for his successful career as a racing driver, having previously competed in the Ginetta GT4 Supercup for team HARD.

He is also a holder of the Indian Motor Racing Club rising star award and, in 2019, took a step into closed-wheel racing by joining Walkenhorst Motorsport in Germany to race a BMW in the VLN series at the Nordschleife Nurburgring.

Seb teased that partner Kayla is “definitely more into” the world of racing since they started dating and, while he suggested she may feel “nervous” about his safety on the race track, he added that he “couldn’t wait” for her to see him take the wheel once more.
