Tony Blackburn issues health update after cancelling BBC Radio 2 shows

Tony Blackburn, 80, logged onto Twitter earlier today to address his 106,000 followers about his health following concerns earlier this month.

The BBC Radio 2 star was forced to postpone some of the dates on his Sounds of the ’60s tour to concentrate on his recovery.

Tony shared a GIF of an animated cartoon sun that read: “Happy Sunday,” alongside a tweet explaining his current condition.

He said: “Good morning, another beautiful day in London where I am, I hope it’s the same where you are.

“For me, it’s another day resting and getting towards that full recovery goal. Have a happy Sunday.”

The radio star was inundated with support on social media some weeks ago after announcing that he had been forced to postpone some of his shows due to a health issue.

The former BBC Radio 1 DJ tweeted: “Hello folks. Just to let you all know, I’ve had a little recurrence of the chest infection I had a few weeks ago.

“My Dr has told me off for not taking some time to recover properly so I am having a break from the radio this weekend,” he continued.

“And, sadly, I have had to postpone the Sounds of the 60s shows at Swindon and Redhill next week too.

“New dates are already in the diary though and I really do hope to be back with you soon,” he added on a more positive note. (sic)

Tony’s concerned fans took to the comments section to send messages of support following the health announcement.

Singer Sheila Ferguson penned: “Your health comes first. Took me ages to finally realise this and take time off. Please let your body heal.”

While Simon commented: “Sending you Best Wishes for a speedy recovery. Take It easy and rest. The doctor knows best.”

“Hope you feel better soon. Are you going to be ok for Saturday morning?” John asked concernedly.

“Get properly well soon and rest a bit longer than that to make sure you’re fully recovered. Sending best wishes,” wrote Sharon.

“Very good advise from your doctor, Tony. Take all the time you need and we look forward to your return when you’re ready,” added Sheila. (sic)
