Tom Cruise talks retirement after turning 61-years-old and Mission Impossible 7

Tom Cruise is slowly bringing his Mission: Impossible franchise to an end – but that may also spell the end of his career.

The star recently turned 61-years-old on July 3, 2023, and has just attended the premiere of his seventh Mission: Impossible movie, Dead Reckoning Part One.

With such a legacy behind him, he has now been quizzed over whether he’ll be hanging up his parachute anytime soon.

Considering the American actor has been in the business since 1981, he could be due a break sometime soon.

However, he disagrees. Cruise doesn’t think retirement is on the cards for him.

Pointing at Harrison Ford, who just released his fifth Indiana Jones movie at 80-years-old, Cruise explained he wants to continue making movies for the foreseeable future.

“Harrison Ford is a legend,” he explained. “I hope to be still going at that age.”

With that, he told the Sydney Morning Herald that he wants to match Ford’s incredible record.

Cruise went on: “I’ve got 20 years to catch up with him. I hope to keep making Mission Impossible films until I’m his age.”

The actor is about to release Dead Reckoning Part One, with Part Two due to hit cinemas in June 2024.

However, his colleagues have already expressed a lot of fear over the actor’s ambitious stunt plans.

Simon Pegg, who plays Benji in the Mission: Impossible movies, recently confessed Cruise’s stunts were a cause for concern during filming.

“Tom is jumping off cliffs on a motorbike,” Pegg said. “He’s hanging his, you know, hanging off trains – it’s genuinely dangerous stuff.

“There’s always a sense that, you know, one day, something might go wrong. We might lose Tom, you know. Anytime there’s a big stunt, we all have that sense of, you know, fear.”

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One hits cinemas on July 14.
