Tom Cruise accepts MTV Movie Award while flying in fighter plane
MTV played a pre-recorded message of the Hollywood star, Tom Cruise, 60, piloting a vintage fighter plane.
The Top Gun star could be seen holding his golden popcorn trophy as he thanked his fans for voting for him to win the MTV Award for Best Performance in a Movie for Top Gun: Maverick.
He declared: “Hi, everyone, thank you so much for this award.
“I will make these films for you. I love you. I love entertaining you. How much you enjoy it, how much you appreciate it. There is no better feeling and I hope you enjoy this.”
Tom then used the opportunity to plug his new Mission Impossible film as he continued: “Dead Reckoning coming out in July. It’s a wild ride. Have a wonderful summer.
“Thank you again for letting me entertain you. It’s an absolute privilege. We’ll see you at the movies.”
Tom beat fellow nominees Austin Butler (Elvis), Florence Pugh (Don’t Worry Darling), Keke Palmer (Nope), and Michael B Jordan (Creed III).
The high-flying stunt was also employed at King Charles III’s coronation, with him being sent a pre-recorded message also.

Piloting the same P-51 Mustang, the War of the Worlds star told the monarch: “Your Majesty, you can be my wingman anytime!”
Tom is known for his stunts, initially developing this passion for flying during the production of his 1986 classic Top Gun.
He then received his license in 1994 and is believed to own two additional aircraft in addition to his flashy P-51 Mustang.
In other news, the MTV Awards was met with chaos in recent weeks, with a pre-recording ceremony being broadcast.
This happened after the live event was cancelled at the last minute amid the first major writers’ strike in 15 years.
The writers’ strike began last week when more than 11,000 members of the WGA downed tools after talks with major studios broke down.
The union is seeking higher minimum pay, more writers per show, and a greater share of the royalties for shows that can now appear on streaming platforms for many years, as well as assurances around the use of artificial intelligence.
Drew Barrymore had been scheduled to present the ceremony before pulling out in a similar show of solidarity.
She did however appear in several pre-recorded sketches, parodying movies like Barbie and Cocaine Bear, and was also named as the winner of the best host award for The Drew Barrymore Show.
In a statement to Variety at the time, the Scream star explained: “I have listened to the writers, and in order to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike.
“Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television is born out of their creation. And until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait but I’ll be watching from home and hope you will join me.
“And I can’t wait to be a part of this next year when I can truly celebrate everything that MTV has created, which is a show that allows fans to choose who the awards go to and is truly inclusive.”
