Tom Brady threatened to sue comedians behind AI standup video

The comedians who produced a special based on A.I. Tom Brady say that the recently retired quarterback has threatened to sue them over it.

On the “Dudesy” podcast earlier this week, comedians Will Sasso and Chad Kultgen revealed that they received a cease-and-desist order from Brady’s lawyer over the special.

“Immediately remove the aforementioned use of Mr. Brady’s name, image, voice, persona, and likeness, and any other unauthorized uses of Mr. Brady’s name, image, voice, persona, and likeness, from any websites, internet platforms, social media profiles, or printed materials that Dudesy and/or its affiliates, control, including by removing the Infringing Special or parts thereof (including, for example, teasers, podcasts excerpting the Infringing Special, shortform media, etc.), from Patreon,” the letter decreed, according to TMZ.

The first 10 minutes of the special were previously available on YouTube and have been taken down.

The comedians previously explained how they generated Brady’s likeness.

“Using data from astonishing interviews with Tom Brady and hundreds of thousands of hours of stand-up comedy footage, I have simulated an hour-long stand-up comedy special,” the Dudesy brand said.

One of the jokes referenced the 2015 Deflategate scandal and recent divorce from model Gisele Bündchen.

“Anybody on the apps right now? I’m recently single and thinking about getting on them, but here’s the problem. I’ve never been on them, I don’t really know what I’m doing,” the A.I. Brady said in the special. “Someone sent me a message on [the dating app] Bumble. She said, ‘You look just like Tom Brady,’ and I said, ‘I am Tom Brady,’ she said, ‘Prove it,’ so I went to her house and let a little air out of all of her footballs.”

Brady retired from football for the second consecutive offseason, initially saying he was hanging up his cleats in 2022 but announcing his return 40 days later.

He has signed a 10-year, $375 million deal to be the top NFL color commentator for Fox Sports, but told FS1 host Colin Cowherd that he will be taking a gap year.

There has been persistent speculation as to whether he will ultimately ever assume that broadcasting job.
