CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) Committee on Tuesday released the rank list for 1.58 lakh engineering aspirants who applied to the admissions counselling. On the rank list, 133 students have got 200 out of 200 cut-off marks.
Renjani K, a native of Tamil Nadu who studied in Kollam in Kerala, has topped the rank list while Harinika M of Dharmapuri and Lokesh Kannan M of Chennai have been ranked second and third, respectively.
After releasing the rank list, higher education minister K Ponmudy said, “TNEA has used total marks in Class XII and Class X to break the tie, and a 10-digit random number was not used this year.”
Of 1.69 lakh candidates who paid fees and uploaded certificates, 1,58,157 were found eligible and 10,923 applications were rejected.
Among the eligible applications, 95,397 are boys and 62,750 are girls and 10 are transgender persons.
“In 431 engineering colleges, 1,48,811 seats are available for counselling this year,” Ponmudy said. Of these seats, 1,27,794 seats are government quota seats, and 21,017 management quota seats were surrendered.
For 7.5% special reservation for government school students, 10,968 seats are available and 22,587 students have applied under this quota. The state government will bear the tuition fees, among others, of government school students.
The counselling for special quota including sports, ex-servicemen and differently abled categories will be held from August 20 to 23. The general online academic counselling will be conducted from August 25 to October 21.
The state government introduced a new rule for the candidates getting allotment orders in the counselling to prevent wastage of seats in top colleges. The candidates need to pay the fees within seven days of allotment or else they will lose their seats.
