Titanic fans discover ‘hilarious’ alternative ending that would’ve ‘ruined’ film

Titanic fans have discovered an unintentionally hilarious alternate ending to the smash-hit 1997 film.

Gloria Stuart narrates the epic story, portraying an elderly version of Kate Winslet’s character, Rose.

During the events leading up to the 1912 disaster, Rose meets and falls in love with Jack (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), while in the modern day a team of researchers search the wreck for a necklace called the Heart of the Ocean.

In the original film, Rose has secretly kept the necklace and throws it into the ocean.

However, in the deleted scene she’s stopped by Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton), who begs her not to throw the priceless jewelry away.

“You look for treasure in the wrong places, Mr Lovett,” Rose tells him. “Only life is priceless, and making each day count.”

After her emotional speech, Rose exclaims “Oh!” and throws the jewel overboard anyway, much to Brock’s dismay.

He starts maniacally laughing while his partner Lewis Bodine (Lewis Abernathy) yells, “That really sucks, lady!”

This version of the scene never made it into the film but has nevertheless become infamous amongst its fans.

“The alternate ending to Titanic is hilarious,” @pattbb8 said upon discovering the clip. “This would have absolutely ruined the film for me.”

@EricApricot said: “Wow. I kept thinking this was the best, most accurate parody ending I’ve ever seen, and was trying to figure out how they filmed it… and I guess it’s real.”

@germ560 wrote: “He was right to cut that. Ending is better when they don’t tell you directly what to think.”

“Omg I cried laughing watching this thank you,” @leahnanako replied.

Cameron’s $2 billion-grossing movie is still hugely popular to this day and received another recent resurgence this year due to the Titan submarine disaster.

The blockbuster filmmaker will return to the big screen for the third instalment in the Avatar franchise in 2025.
