Titanfall and Apex Vets Defect to Form Wildlight Entertainment, “Epic Shooter” in the Works

A large number of Titanfall and Apex Legends veterans have split from EA to form a new studio, Wildlight Entertainment, and they’ve already begun work on a new shooter. According to the new Seattle/LA-based studio, they’re “fully funded” (by who, we don’t yet know) and are working on something “big, bold, and original.”

“We are a new, fully-funded entertainment studio hyper-focused on creating big, bold, original gaming universes of epic quality and scale. We’ve been quietly working on a new IP for some time, and while it’ll be a bit before we can say more, we’re beyond excited for what’s to come.”

Wildlight Entertainment’s Twitter account clarifies the studio’s first game will be a shooter.

A quick scan of Wildlight’s staff page shows that nearly every member of the team is a Respawn Entertainment vet that worked on Titanfall, Apex Legends, or in most cases, both series. Perhaps most notably, the first name listed on the page is Mohammad Alavi, a former Titanfall 2 senior game designer who was reportedly the director of the sadly-canceled Titanfall Legends. Another Titanfall 2 senior designer, Chad Grenier, is listed as Wildlight studio head and game director.

For those who missed the story earlier this month, EA and Respawn were reported to have recently canceled Titanfall Legends, a new single-player shooter set in the Titanfall/Apex shared universe. The game was apparently somewhat inspired by Doom Eternal in terms of gameplay and would have had Apex Legends characters show up to assist the player. Mohammad Alavi was reportedly leading the project with a team of around 50 people, before leaving Respawn late last year.

Now, this is just speculation – the existence of Titanfall Legends itself is still a rumor – but it sure seems like the team that was making Titanfall Legends have struck on their own with Wildlight Entertainment. Does that mean Wildlight’s new game will essentially be a revival of the Titanfall Legends project? That we don’t know, but I think a lot of fans would be happy if that were the case.

What do you think? Interested in what Wildlight Entertainment might be cooking up?
