Tina Turner’s son Ike Jr. ‘tried to eat’ crack cocaine, meth before arrest: cops
Ike Turner Jr., son of the late Tina Turner and her ex-husband Ike Turner, was charged with crack cocaine possession and tampering with evidence and sent to a Texas jail just weeks before his mother’s death back in May.
According to jail records, Ike was booked into the Brazoria County Jail on May 6 and has not posted his $70,000 bail.
“The Best” singer Tina died on May 24 at her home in Switzerland, where she had been living for many years.
The Alvin, Texas, police department told People Wednesday that they pulled Ike Jr. over at a traffic light in Alvin on that date for an equipment violation, claiming his headlight or taillight was out.
Officers then noticed Ike Jr. attempting to consume narcotics that were in his possession, and they subsequently confiscated 1.7 grams of crack cocaine and .7 grams of methamphetamine.
“He tried to eat the drugs before the officers could seize them from him,” Capt. Q.T. Arendell of the Alvin PD told People.
A passenger, Jessica Salinas-Esquivel, was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamines, according to the incident report obtained by People.
The Post has contacted representatives for the Turner family and Alvin police.
Ike adopted Ike Jr. and Michael Turner before marrying Tina, who then adopted the two sons when they wed in 1962.
Ike was a notoriously abusive husband to Tina and suffered from cocaine addiction.
Starting in 1989, he served 18 months in prison for cocaine possession; he died of a drug overdose in 2007.
Ike Jr. said that his father “beat me in the head with a nickel-plated .45 pistol” for briefly working as Tina’s sound engineer when the couple divorced in 1978, according to a 2018 Daily Mail interview.
Ike Jr. added that he hadn’t spoken to his mother in more than 10 years.
