‘Time for me to have a long lie-in’ Carol Kirkwood speaks out on BBC Breakfast future

Carol Kirkwood first hit our screens in 1998 after she joined BBC News to present the weather. Since then, the weather presenter has gone on to become a fan favourite on the BBC Breakfast team.

The meteorologist, who recently released her debut novel Under A Greek Moon, has addressed her time on the morning programme and admitted she has no plans to leave Breakfast.

The 59-year-old explained she felt privileged to work on the team but added she will know when it is time to exit.

Carol went down to four days a week several years ago and believes the rumours of her being replaced started simply because she no longer works there on a Friday.

Speaking in a new interview, the weather forecaster spoke candidly about her show future.

“I don’t worry about it. One day, it is going to happen,” Carol commented.

“The [BBC] will either say, ‘Thank you very much’ or I’ll say, ‘I’ve had enough of the early starts and it’s time for me to have a long lie-in.'”

The BBC favourite admitted she has no plans to leave her weather presenting duties.

“But I love my job. It’s such a privilege. I love the weather,” Carol continued to Irish News.

Carol and Jimmy tied the knot back in 1990, but after 18 years of marriage, the pair went their separate ways.

The BBC Breakfast presenter revealed that she and her new partner met at a party but their second meeting was not for some time.

She said: “We liked each other at first sight. I think he’s very handsome. He gave me his phone number and didn’t presume to ask me for mine.

“We didn’t meet for ages afterward, although we spoke on the phone quite a bit. So we got to know each other over the phone at first.”
