However, that’s set to change now as WhatsApp has officially discontinued the older version of the desktop app, reports WABetaInfo. The older version of the WhatsApp app was a legacy Windows software and offered an older design and limited functionality compared to the new version of the app.
WhatsApp started asking users to make the switch
As mentioned, the new WhatsApp app for Windows is now available and WhatsApp has already started asking legacy version users to make the switch to the newer native app. When users open the legacy version of Windows, they see a new prompt to switch to the new native WhatsApp app.
Now, this is not the first time, WhatsApp has warned users about switching to the new native Windows app. The instant messaging platform has already started notifying users over a month ago with a countdown timer directly within the apps’ main screen.
What’s new with the native app
WhatsApp has developed a new native app for Windows from scratch. The app comes with a new modern design that matches that of the Windows 11 design language. Things like rounded corners, transparency, ability to adapt to the colour theme of the operating system. In addition to this, the app also offers a better user interface and allows users to share messages, photos, videos and other media content. Apart from that, the app also lets users make and receive both audio and video calls.
