This UK pub is offering free beers – but there’s a catch
Who doesn’t love free booze?
We’re certainly suckers for a pint and they taste even better when they don’t cost you a penny.
Well, The Old Forge pub in Scotland is offering two complimentary beers to each customer – but it doesn’t come without a catch.
The bar turns out to be the most remote on mainland Great Britain, so you’ll be in desperate need of a drink after you trek 35km through what is described as ‘Britain’s last wilderness’ to get there.
The renowned hike is traditionally done over two days, but can be achieved in around eight hours for the more experienced, boasting unbeatable views of the Scottish Highlands along the way.
Nestled on the northern shore of Loch Nevis on the Knoydart Peninsula, the pub is certainly a hot spot for adventurers who need their thirst quenched.
An alternative way to reach the bar for that free booze is to navigate a choppy 11km sea crossing – two pints and a journey home on choppy waters could be an interesting combo though.
But once you’ve reached The Old Forge pub, all you have to do is say the word ‘wiggle’ to bar staff.
Why Wiggle? Sports retailer Wiggle has teamed up with Knoydart Brewery to launch Trale; a brand new, limited-edition beer which – you guessed it – is the free beer you will receive when you get there.
But don’t think you can skimp on the hiking and try the Trale closer to home, because it’s only available at The Old Forge – nowhere else.
The beer is a 5.1% golden ale with hints of citrus, brewed with single malt and single hop.
It’s created at Knoydart Brewery, the UK’s most remote micro-brewery, so it’s fair to say the booze connoisseurs there have a good idea about what might satisfy the palate after 15 miles on foot.
Stephanie Harris, of The Old Forge, said: ‘We are very excited to be partnering with Wiggle to showcase the beauty and adventure our little part of the world has to offer – and the great Knoydart beer!
‘Having recently carried out an extensive refurb on our community-owned pub, we are looking forward to reopening the doors and welcoming folk in at the end of their epic trail over the hills of the Rough Bounds to get here. Slainte.’
The beer is only available from July 1.
