This super Sky Stream deal just got much better overnight

Netflix has overhauled prices for UK subscribers – ditching its £6.99 Basic tier, thereby forcing anyone who wants to avoid watching adverts in the middle of new episodes of Bridgerton, Sex Education, or Stranger Things to pay at least £10.99. Ouch.

It comes just a few months after Netflix introduced new charges for anyone sharing passwords in the UK, adding an extra £4.99 per person who uses your Netflix account to watch shows from another address. If you’re looking to split the cost of an advert-free Netflix subscription with a friend, that means your bills have risen from £6.99 per month …to a whopping £15.98.

This subscription shake-up means that one of the best Sky deals is now even better. That’s because Sky still includes a Netflix  Basic subscription with its Sky Stream box – despite that price tier being discontinued on Netflix’s website. There’s no word on whether that will change in the future, but Sky remains one of the only places to buy this affordable Netflix subscription.

Sky Stream customers can choose to upgrade to Netflix Standard for access to 1080p HD and more simultaneous streams across multiple devices for an extra £4 per month. That brings the total cost of the Sky Stream box, 150 live channels, and 500 on-demand boxsets from HBO, Peacock, and Sky Originals to just £30.

For £26 a month, you’ll get the brilliant Sky Stream set-top box (the latest hardware from Sky), a Basic Netflix subscription (previously available for £6.99 per month, but discontinued under the latest overhaul from Netflix), access to 500 on-demand boxsets from HBO and Sky Originals, like House of the Dragon, Succession, Euphoria, …And Just Like That, Game Of Thrones, Mare Of Eastown, Brassic, and many more.

You’ll also be able to watch live channels like Sky Atlantic, Sky Crime, Sky Sports News, Comedy Central, MTV, Discovery Channel and more without a satellite dish outside of your home. Sky also bundles access to exclusive shows from US-only streaming service Peacock, including Bel-Air, Joe vs Carole, and Girls 5 Eva.

Sky Stream is capable of pausing and rewinding live television. It also boasts a wide array of streaming services, including Netflix (obviously), Disney+, Apple TV+, Prime Video, a number of fitness apps and Spotify.

Searching on Sky Stream will trawl through the selection of live channels, Sky Store, as well as any streaming services signed-in with an account on the box. This will ensure that you don’t pay to rent something on the Sky Store that’s included as part of your subscription to Disney+, for example.

Sky Stream supports 4K Ultra HD – the highest picture quality currently available from most live broadcasters. It also supports voice commands, so you won’t need to worry about typing out the names of shows with an on-screen keyboard and directional pad. You can also quote from your favourite films to find them on Sky Stream, so shouting “Show me the money!” will load up Jerry Maguire, for example.
