This Is the First Made-in-India Game on Xbox Game Pass

Raji: An Ancient Epic is coming to Xbox Game Pass. According to a post on the official Xbox website, the made-in-India action-adventure game will be gracing the Xbox Series X, Series S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming on July 22. What this also means is, if you’re in a country where Xbox Cloud Gaming works, you can actually play Raji on your mobile device.

Currently on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch (as well as being playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatibility), Raji: An Ancient Epic isn’t on Android or iOS, two of the world’s biggest mobile gaming platforms.

That said, rumours circulating in the Indian video games industry over the past few months suggested that a mobile release was in the works. However in a recent conversation with IGN India, co-founder and game artist Shruti Ghosh claimed that a mobile version wasn’t that far ahead, while confirming that it is indeed something the team thinks about.

“So yeah that’s the plan,” said Ghosh in a recent interview when asked if Raji for mobile was in the works before reminding us that we should not expect a release date anytime soon.

Reason being: Nodding Heads’ roadmap for the game will focus on previously announced additions to existing versions like RTX and Hindi voiceovers.

“But if you’ve seen the roadmap that’s been laid out for now the first thing is RTX support and the gameplay enhancements we’re doing to the present build and other things we are enhancing the game with,” she said. Though she does admit it’s something the team has thought about.

“Yes, Raji mobile is something we have on our mind but we don’t have a tentative timeline or when it will come out right now.”

It will be interesting to see if Raji does make it to Android and iOS as it would allow Nodding Heads to tap into a new audience. At the same time, it makes us wonder what kind of monetisation it would have considering that premium mobile experiences are non-existent outside of services like Apple Arcade.

With the studio’s focus squarely on supporting the game on existing platforms this year, we won’t be surprised to see it tackle mobile if and when it is able to solve the monetisation and discovery challenges Android and iOS pose for independent developers.
