‘This is garbage’: Barty roasts Adelaide
Ash Barty is back to her “insane” best in Adelaide but the World No. 1 has taken a cheeky little swipe at the City of Churches.
Ash Barty has shown why she is the world No. 1 with a ruthless demolition job on the World No. 12 at the Adelaide International.
After the Aussie superstar needed three sets to get past 17-year-old wunderkind Coco Gauff in round two of the tournament, she had no such issues against Kenin.

The 23-year-old American and 2020 Australian Open winner was no match for Barty as the Aussie blazed to a 6-3 6-4 win in just over an hour in Adelaide.
Barty had everything going for her, winning 31 of 32 points on her first serve, sending down 17 aces in just 10 service games and earning nine break points to zero.
It sets up a semi-final match up against either two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka or 2021 French Open champion Iga Swiatek.
It was a much easier match for Barty than the match against Gauff, as she clearly got rid of the rust from the first match and delivered some sumptuous touches.
But while Adelaide has been a perfect preparation for the Australian Open for Barty, there was one thing she wishes she could change — and there’s nothing Adelaide could do about it.
Under the roof in a rainy and dreary Adelaide where the top temperature was 21 degrees Celsius, Barty roasted the city for a very un-Australia summer day — particularly for a Queenslander.
“I was really happy, when we got here it was 39 degrees,” she said. “I brought one jacket so this is garbage, this needs to change or I’m not going to be very happy.
“Look, it’s nice, beautiful facilities here at the Drive which allows us to play throughout most weather so that’s a really brilliant thing for players because we know we can get that momentum and play in front of you guys so you can enjoy it.”
Barty does enjoy Adelaide, having won her first WTA title in Australia at Memorial Drive in 2020.
Despite the dominant win however, Barty said she still has plenty to work on.
“It’s nice to come out here and be tested right from the start and know that you have to bring your very best level,” she said. “Looking at these last two matches, there’s still work to do, we go back to the drawing board to continue to do all the right things, but it’s been a really solid start and we’re really happy with the foundation to start the year off.”
Barty said here four month break was important to be able to recharge after a long year.
Despite those comments, 2021 was a massive year for the Aussie World No. 1, completing another calendar year at the top and winning five titles including the Wimbledon crown.
“My heart wanted me to be home with my family to want to enjoy it. We were able to do that which is nice. But it’s nice to be back out, back in the flow of things, and play another Aussie summer.”
Barty finished her 2021 season after the US Open in early September and then announced her engagement to long-term boyfriend Garry Kissick.
