With a Fuel Meals subscription, you get entrees delivered every week. You can choose to skip a week, pause or cancel your subscription at any time. There are multiple Fuel Meals Plans to select from.

  • A meal plan focused on weight loss or muscle gain: By selecting a plan, you get eight, 14, 21, or 28 meals per week. Your meals will average a certain number of daily calories depending on whether you want to lose or gain weight (more on this later). You can select if you would like breakfast included, and let Fuel Meals know if you have any dietary restrictions. Plans range from about $115 to $400 a week, and you can choose weekly or bi-weekly delivery.

  • Entrees a la carte: You can purchase as many meals as you would like—and which specific entrees—to be delivered weekly or bi-weekly. Meals range from $13 to $16 each.

  • By the pound: Another way to use Fuel Meals is to buy your protein, veggies, and carbs by the pound—cooked, but not seasoned. Rice, potatoes, broccoli, salmon, grilled chicken, turkey burgers, and more are available this way. You can portion your food at home and add whatever extras you like, making it a good option for anyone who wants more customization. Packs range from $10 for rice to $24 for flank steak.

Once you select which meals you’ll be receiving, either through a plan or a la carte, they arrive in a freezer box. They’re designed to stay fresh in the refrigerator for seven days, but if you don’t think you’ll eat them all in a week you can store them in the freezer for a later date.

You can select which day of the week you’d like your package shipped on, and Fuel Meals will keep you updated with the tracking information.

There’s a variety of options

Fuel Meals offers an array of meal options, and I think it’s easy to find some that you’ll love. But if one of the pre-selected meals doesn’t work for you, it’s easy to substitute entrees.

I also like that there are multiple ways to purchase your meals. If you find the number of meals isn’t working for you in one of the pre-selected plans, buying entrees and snacks a la carte is simple. If you’d rather portion everything yourself or make some additions, purchasing by the pound is another great option.

Meals take almost no time to prepare

I enjoy cooking, so I’m not one to complain about time spent in the kitchen. But after a full day of work, plus a workout, plus time to socialize or unwind, you don’t always want to spend time preparing and cleaning up after dinner.

I don’t buy many frozen entrees at the grocery store, but on nights when my yoga class ended at 8 p.m. or I had other errands to run after work, I really appreciated how it took almost no time to prepare my Fuel Meals.

Roughly three minutes in the microwave and they were done And the only dishes I had to wash after eating were my fork and knife. It’s quick and convenient for anyone with a busy schedule.

The meals are pretty tasty

When you think of high-protein diets and other “healthy” meals, you may think “bland” or “boring.” I really liked all the meals I tried—they were flavorful and creative for microwave dinners. My favorites were the chicken quesadilla and the pineapple pepper stir fry.

But I also liked getting the basic protein, veggie, and rice dishes, because they were easy to throw in a pan with some soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil for a quick and minimal-effort fried rice if I wanted to change things up.

What we don’t like

The weight loss or muscle gain plans may not work for everyone

While the weight loss and muscle gain plans are a great starting point for the average person, they may not work for everyone. There are four plans in total to choose from:

  • Men’s weight loss: 1,750 calories per day, including 175 grams of protein, 131 grams of carbs, and 58 grams of fat.
  • Men’s muscle gain: 2,750 calories per day, including 206 grams of protein, 275 grams of carbs, and 92 grams of fat.
  • Women’s weight loss: 1,500 calories per day, including 150 grams of protein, 113 grams of carbs, and 50 grams of fat
  • Women’s muscle gain: 2,500 calories per day, including 187 grams of protein, 250 grams of carbs, and 84 grams of fat

While these plans are a fine baseline, your specific nutritional needs will change based on your current weight, fitness goals, exercise level, and more. If you find they’re not working for you, you may want to consult a doctor or dietitian for more personalized advice.

No vegetarian meal plans available

Unfortunately, Fuel Meals’ food options fall short for those who are plant-based or vegan.

To cater to such high-protein diets, Fuel Meals centers its meals around meat and other animal-based ingredients like eggs. This means, unfortunately, no vegetarian or vegan entrees are available.

For the athletes out there who have minimal time to prepare dinner, Fuel Meals is a great option. It’s convenient, tasty, and makes it easy to up your protein intake.

Compared to other health-conscious prepared meal delivery services like Fresh N Lean, Fuel Meals is a bit more expensive—roughly $14 per meal compared to $10.49. So if you’re working on a strict budget, you may want to consider a more affordable option.
