Thierry Henry pays emotional tribute to Man City legend Sergio Aguero

Thierry Henry paid a touching tribute to Sergio Aguero after the Manchester City legend was forced to retire from football.

Aguero announced his decision to call time on his career earlier this month, having suffered a heart scare while playing for Barcelona in October.

The former Argentina international, who scored 184 goals in 275 Premier League appearances with City, had only made the move back to Spain in the summer, having left the Etihad after 10 years.

The 33-year-old was only able to make five appearances for the Catalan giants, before being taken to hospital just 42 minutes into his first home start after suffering breathing difficulties.

Aguero made a tearful announcement at the Camp Nou as he revealed he was calling time on his career, with a number of the game’s greats paying their own tributes, including Lionel Messi.

And Henry, who sits just behind Aguero in the all-time Premier League goalscorers list with 175 goals, added his own emotional tribute this week while on punditry duty with Amazon Prime Video.

“First and foremost, I didn’t have time to pay tribute to the big man and I think we have seen one of the best strikers ever in the history of this league,” Henry said.

“To see him go the way he went, stopping the game that he loved the most and what he likes to do the most, scoring goals, without having the chance anymore to be able to do that for the reason we know.

“Obviously, health is the most important thing.”

Henry added: “It’s not only the goals, it’s how he scored them.

“The passion that he had. The relationship he had with the City fans and I think everyone in this country will always, always remember Sergio Aguero.

“And I’m in that because I love football, the way he used to score goals and how he went about it.

“I was so sad to see him leave the game the way he left so all the very best with his life and for his family.

“But, as I said, health is very important and we tend to forget about that. What a player he was.”
