The world’s healthiest holiday destination is an ‘amazing place’ – list

While Spain is one of the most popular destinations for British expats, it might not be the healthiest choice according to new research.

A new ranking from the travel team at Icelandair has found the world’s healthiest cities and the first Spanish city ranked outside the top five.

The survey looked at the cost of living, safety ranking, traffic, climate and working hours to determine the results.

This year’s healthiest city is an “amazing place” which scored very highly when it came to quality of life.

Luckily for Britons, the winning city isn’t far from the UK and can easily be reached for a healthy workcation break.

Vienna, the capital of Austria, was the highest ranking city and the healthiest destination for British expats.

The city’s top-rated attraction on Tripadvisor is the Schonbrunn Palace, which was once the main summer residence of the Hapsburg rulers.

A tourist ‘Malgorzata N’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Amazing place to visit. Amazing palace and gardens. One of the most beautiful palaces in Europe.”

While Vienna is one of Europe’s healthiest cities, it’s also arguably the home of cake and expats shouldn’t miss out on a slice of world famous sachertorte.

Copenhagen came second in the rankings and expats will find it easy to get around by bike in the Danish capital.

Amsterdam ranked third and is another ideal destination for expats who prefer to get around on two wheels.

Sun worshippers might not be impressed by the top five destinations, but Valencia, the sixth ranking city could be an ideal expat home.

The Spanish port city is very close to beaches and is also known as the birthplace of Spain’s famous paella.
