The unlikely industrial estate in Enfield where Netflix is taking over
Netflix are expanding and taking over an unlikely industrial estate in part of North London. The popular streaming service, which produces and distributes a number of hit original shows, will convert an old site with three vast warehouses in Enfield into brand new studios.
The streaming giant will not only use the space to house studios but will make room for sound stages, and areas for make-up and costumes. Neflix are negotiating with local developers and the council to rent the entire 230,000 square feet of Segro Park development reports the Evening Standard.
As it stands, the streaming giant already have a base at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, but have made it clear that they wish to grow. Other TV production companies are also looking to set up a base in London as Atlanta-based Blackhall Studios is eyeing a £150 million project at the Thames Valley Science Park whilst Disney has a large-scale deal at Pinewood Studios, where Star Wars and Marvel films are made.

The recent plans for expansion by production companies shows Covid has not affected London’s TV and film boom. During the pandemic, Netlfix’s popular regency drama Bridgerton was a success as it attracted 8.2 million viewers by the end of March 2021.
Anna Mallett, Netflix’s vice president, physical production, said: “The UK is one of Netflix’s most important hubs: its creative brilliance, combined with a highly skilled and versatile workforce creates an ecosystem that makes this country one of the best places to do business.”
