It’s less than 100 days until Christmas, and we’re already itching to grab the mulled wine and deck the halls.

And now, Kew Gardens have added to the excitement with the announcement that their Wakehurst site in Sussex will be home to the UK’s largest living Christmas tree.

The 37m tree – that’s almost 20m higher than the Trafalgar Square tree – will be part of Kew’s annual Christmas spectacular, Glow Wild at Wakehurst, and will be decorated with a dazzling 1,800 energy saving bulbs.

Wakehurst is Kew’s wild botanical garden in the Sussex countryside. And, as darkness falls on the 500 acre site, visitors will be able to explore the gardens, which will come to life with handcrafted lanterns and 11 light installations.

The year’s theme will celebrate the wide spectrum of the colours of nature.

When you arrive, you’ll be given your own colourful lantern to follow a rainbow trail of over 1,000 lanterns that light up the gardens and forest.

From installations that look like insects, to cloud shaped lanterns, 4m high flowers and giant parading puppets, we challenge you not to get into the Christmas spirit.

One installation will even be giving off infra-red rays – naked to the human eye, but great at attracting Wakehurst’s bats.

And if the heartwarming sound of children oohing and aahing at the displays is a little too much for you, Wakehurst also offers adult only sessions.

So grab your besties, some gloves and a hot chocolate, and prepare to feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Tickets are available from Glow Wild 2022. The trail opens on 23 Nov until New Year’s Day. Prices for adults start at £14 and £11 for children.
