The UK’s most expensive cup of tea is in London and will cost you £500 a pot

If there’s one stereotype about the British which is pretty bang on, its that as a nation we love our tea.

The issue though, is that everyone likes their tea a certain way, and we all think our way is the best.

But whilst quality is one thing, price is another, so how much would you pay for the perfect pot of tea?

But it has to be their tea that sets them apart.

At £500 for a pot of Ceylon Golden Tips, one that holds just three cups of tea, The Rubens offers the most expensive tea in the UK.

You read that right, half a grand for a cuppa, but naturally this is no ordinary cup of tea.

Ceylon Golden Tips is of course a very rare tea blend produced in the Sri Lankan highlands, brought to the UK by specialist tea concocters PMD Teas.

In case you were wondering if you could just buy some of this tea to have at home and knock some of the price off that comes from getting it at The Rubens, think again.

This particular blend is now supplied exclusively to The Rubens, it’s actually now called the Rubens Golden Tips tea.

To create the tea, specialist teas pluckers take just the very tips of the tea leaves and sun-dry them delicately on a velvet cloth.

The Rubens website described the tea as: “Infused with still mineral water to produce an extraordinary liquor and a smooth, light and mellow texture, with hints of fruity notes.

Luckily too, for those baulking at such a huge price-tag, the leaves can also be reinfused three times, with each reuse producing a different flavour profile.

If you do buy the £500 tea, you get your money's worth with an afternoon tea and bottle of Champagne included

The Rubens website also gushes at how the tea will be presented with “white-glove service”, and “weighed with precision using golden scales”.

Though if you do decide to give it a go, you’ll also get a full afternoon tea for two with a bottle of Lanson Champagne in the Palace Lounge of the hotel.

The experience is available from 12pm until 5pm Monday to Friday and on Sundays, and 12pm until 6pm on Saturdays.

You can also visit the Rubens website here, where a regular afternoon tea is £45 per head.
