The seasonal adverts are out and the most eager of decorators have already put up their lights: Christmas is officially here.

Santa and his elves will be putting the finishing touches on this year’s presents too – many of which feature in the latest DreamToys top toys list.

The annual ranking, by the Toy Retailers Association, is selected by an independent panel of retailers and toy experts, providing a unique insight on what kids in 2022 want.

It’s a win for shoppers, as us adults can be out of the loop when it comes to ‘cool’ gifts they’ll want to brag about in the playground come January.

If in doubt (and without a wishlist) you have a safe bet on hand to suit every child.

The panel first chose a longlist of 72 toys, before whittling them down to 12 winners across a range of age groups.

Paul Reader, the new chair of the DreamToys selection committee, said: ‘2022 has been a challenging year for many families and the committee took this into consideration when selecting this year’s list, with eight of the Top 12 priced under £35.

‘We know many use the DreamToys list for guidance when it comes to making purchasing decisions and we feel we’ve selected the best toys to delight children this Christmas while suiting different budgets.’

That’ll be (Christmas) music to many parents’ ears. Here’s the DreamToys top 12 toys for this festive season, in no particular order.
