The seasonal adverts are out and the most eager of decorators have already put up their lights: Christmas is officially here.
Santa and his elves will be putting the finishing touches on this year’s presents too – many of which feature in the latest DreamToys top toys list.
The annual ranking, by the Toy Retailers Association, is selected by an independent panel of retailers and toy experts, providing a unique insight on what kids in 2022 want.
It’s a win for shoppers, as us adults can be out of the loop when it comes to ‘cool’ gifts they’ll want to brag about in the playground come January.
If in doubt (and without a wishlist) you have a safe bet on hand to suit every child.
The panel first chose a longlist of 72 toys, before whittling them down to 12 winners across a range of age groups.
Paul Reader, the new chair of the DreamToys selection committee, said: ‘2022 has been a challenging year for many families and the committee took this into consideration when selecting this year’s list, with eight of the Top 12 priced under £35.
‘We know many use the DreamToys list for guidance when it comes to making purchasing decisions and we feel we’ve selected the best toys to delight children this Christmas while suiting different budgets.’
That’ll be (Christmas) music to many parents’ ears. Here’s the DreamToys top 12 toys for this festive season, in no particular order.
Barbie Cutie Reveal Doll
The Barbie Cutie Reveal looks like a plush toy upon opening the box, but it’s actually the iconic Mattel doll dressed as an adorable animal.
It comes with 10 accessories, including shimmery clothes, a sponge-comb, and a mini pet.
Gabby’s Purrfect Dollhouse
At £80, this is one of the pricier toys on the list, but the 61cm doll house is packed with features.
Shaped like a cat, the house has four floors, with a delivery tower and Cat-A-Vator going between, as well as sounds and furniture to play with.
Heroes of Goo Jit Zu Goo Shifters Hero Pack
Apparently children are still obsessed with slime, proving things never really change.
These toys can be squeezed up to three times their original size, with seven Shifters characters to collect.

Push this disco-loving giraffe’s foot and watch her dance to one of three inbuilt songs, shaking her booty to the beat.
Made by Jiggly Pets, it makes a great sensory toy for kids who like electronic, interactive animals.
Little Live Pets – Mama Surprise
The soft guinea pig plush isn’t the only toy here – her hutch is interactive, so if you wait Mama will have her babies in there.
She makes sounds when she eats or is brushed, and her head will glow when she’s ready to give birth.
Magic Mixies Mixlings Magic Castle Playset
It seems imaginative play is high on the agenda for Christmas 2022, with this castle set providing the perfect setting.
Use the magic wand to make magical things happen, from a secret entrance activation to a magical bed time and fortune telling.

Paw Patrol isn’t going anywhere either.
There are five of these themed trucks to choose from, including Rubble, Chase, Marshall, Rocky, and Zuma – plus each comes with the character’s figurine.

This game is fun for all the family, challenging up to four players to a jungle adventure.
The aim is to get your character out of the kinetic sand, which can also be used afterwards to create models and for sensory play.

You can’t go wrong with a cosy plush toy, and Squishmallows are among the cosiest around.
Everything from unicorns and dragons to pigs and sheep are available, so your little one can collect their favourites.
