The Strongest Superman Ever Is an All-Powerful Cosmic Robot God

Cosmic Armor Superman was essentially a robot deity who constantly breaks the Fourth Wall and embodies everything we love about comic book fandom.

Superman is typically portrayed as one of the most powerful comic book superheroes ever. Some versions of him are more powerful than others, however, with the deus ex machina that is Silver Age Superman being light-years beyond the comparatively street-level Golden Age Superman. Perhaps Superman’s most powerful iteration, created by writer Grant Morrison, was also the hero’s weirdest.

Cosmic Armor Superman was essentially a deity who breaks the Fourth Wall and embodies everything about comic book fandom. This made him the perfect character to show up in one of Grant Morrison’s out-there Multiversal romps. Here’s what fans need to know about Cosmic Armor Superman and how the robot is fueled by their own love for the character.

Superman in Final Crisis

The Thought Robot/Cosmic Armor Superman had his one and only appearance in Superman Beyond 3D by Grant Morrison and Doug Manke, taking place between the events of the Final Crisis crossover. The story of the issue involved Mandrakk the Dark Monitor, who threatened to literally suck all of the life and hope out of fiction. Superman, the most perfect distillation of heroism, is brought to comic book limbo by the Monitors, who seek to save and maintain the balance of the multiverse.

Superman is fused with his Crime Syndicate counterpart Ultraman in order to form the Thought Robot known as Cosmic Armor Superman. This new being trounces all other versions of the character in pure strength and eventually defeats Mandrakk after speaking directly to the reading audience. Though he was promptly defused afterward, this version of Superman wielded almost incalculable power in his brief appearance.

The Power of Cosmic Armor Superman

The Cosmic Armor Superman robot is described as a literal plot device. Composed of pure thoughts, the robot reacts to an opponent’s strength and power, increasing its own in response to always overcome any danger. It can recover from damage and manipulate its body in order to better fulfill this task, becoming not only more resilient but even larger in the face of immense threats.

It also has spacial and transdimensional awareness, allowing it to fend off dimensional and plot manipulation that would attempt to erase it from existence. Its strength and speed transcend anything imaginable and are not constrained by the limits of other beings throughout the multiverse, also allowing to literally contain Limbo itself within its hand. These strengths are all coupled with absolutely no weaknesses, as the Cosmic Armor Superman is designed to respond to and take down any and all threats to itself and the multiversal and somehow come out on top.

Due to this omniversal and overpowered nature, there’s yet to be any further appearances of this high-concept incarnation of DC’s greatest superhero. The fact that he so casually interacts with various universes and realities would require a story along the lines of Crisis on Infinite Earths to truly showcase. Thus, it’s unlikely that this version of the Man of Steel will be seen outside of the comics anytime soon, especially since he’s so esoteric even within the comic books.
