The start dates for the Premier League, EFL and National League 2023/24
But thankfully for footy fans, who have actually had to socialise on Saturday afternoons over the past few weeks, the start of the new campaign is just around the corner, with the English football pyramid readying itself to fire back into action in August.
The new season will once again feature tears, trials and tribulations over the course of the ten months – and fans wouldn’t want it any other way.
Let’s take a look at the start dates for the Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two.
When does the Premier League start?
The Premier League 2023/24 season will start on the weekend of Saturday, August 12.
The first match of the new campaign on the Friday night will see reigning champions Manchester City make the short trip to face newly promoted Burnley, managed by City legend Vincent Kompany.
Luton kick-start their first-ever Premier League season against Brighton on the south coast, whilst last season’s runners-up Arsenal are at home to Nottingham Forest in the Saturday lunchtime slot.
The pick of the weekend’s fixtures is Mauricio Pochettino taking charge of his first Chelsea game with the Blues welcoming Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on the Sunday.

When does the EFL start?
The Championship, League One and League Two will begin on the weekend of Saturday, August 5.
The first EFL fixture on Friday, August 4 will see Southampton, relegated from the top flight last term, make the long trip up north to face Sheffield Wednesday who themselves were only promoted from League One via the play-offs back in May.
When does the National League start?
The National League will start on Saturday, August 5 with all 24 teams involved on the opening day.
