‘The Scandi hairline’ is trending – and it could be your summer saviour

First came the money pieces, then face-framing highlights, but now the ‘Scandi hairline’ is the latest hair trend that’s got TikTok talking.

For those not clued-up, the technique involves bleaching solely your hairline (or in other words, just the baby hairs), rather than large sections on your head.

Essentially, it mimics where the sun would typically hit your hair – enhancing the colour around your forehead, as a result.

So, the finished style is natural-looking but bold.

And not only is it an easier touch-up than a full head of highlights but it’s less costly, too.

‘Bleaching the baby hairs on your hairline is a quick process that requires no additional effort or time,’ explains hair expert Alice Dawkins of Milk + Blush.

‘Due to the hairs being so fine, they develop much quicker than anywhere else.

‘Plus, it’s much better for your hair health as it allows your stylist to lift your hair colour without bleaching large sections.’

It also helps tackle the issue of regrowth.

Alice continues: ‘Often when people experience regrowth, they are left with a band of visible roots, but targeting those fine hairs will make it look much more natural, allowing people to go longer between appointments.

‘To keep hair healthy between appointments, take extra good care of it by investing in a weekly scalp mask, protecting it from excessive sun exposure, avoiding heat tools where possible and creating a tailored hair wash routine (so it doesn’t fade too quickly).’

The team at MARLOU Styling Bar, in Oslo, say they’ve already seen an uptick in requests for this style – but stress that the process can be a little more complex than it looks.

They tell Metro: ‘Each treatment needs to be custom-tailored to the individual and is far from the “basic” routine often seen online.

‘Moreover, this isn’t a quick fix; the treatment takes longer than people might expect.

‘The area needs to be worked on very delicately and under the careful supervision of our hairstylists at all times. So it’s a bit more of a time commitment, but the results are totally worth it.’
