The Queen’s £207k engagement ring has link to Kate Middleton & Meghan Markle

Saturday, November 20, would have marked the Queen and Prince Philip’s 74 year wedding anniversary. Queen Elizabeth and Philip met when they were 13 and 18 years old, respectively. This was in 1934 when they both attended the wedding of Philip’s cousin, Princess Marina of Greece to The Duke of Kent.

They met again at Dartmouth Royal Navy College in 1939, and Prince Philip reportedly tried to impress her on the tennis court.

Soon after, the couple started writing to one another and Prince Philip declared his love.

Their engagement was announced on July 9, 1947, after Philip asked King George VI for permission to marry his daughter.

The wedding took place four months after the engagement on November 20 at Westminster Abbey and was watched by 200 million people worldwide.

The Duke of Edinburgh passed away on April 9 this year aged 99, two months before his 100th birthday.

As young lovers, the romantic story of how they fell in love has stolen the hearts of royal fans around the world.

Prince Philip used a very meaningful piece of jewellery to craft an engagement ring for the Queen.

Experts at Steven Stone jewellers revealed to Express.co.uk the symbolism of the Queen’s engagement ring from the Duke.

According to Steven Stone, Prince Philip used diamonds from his mother’s tiara, Princess Alice of Battenburg to create Queen Elizabeth’s stunning three-carat engagement ring.

The Princess gave her son the tiara in 1946 knowing that he would soon propose.

Prince Philip then helped London jeweller Philip Antrobus Ltd design the ring.

However, not all the diamonds were used for the ring. The Duke of Edinburgh used the leftover diamonds to create a bracelet for his soon-to-be wife.

He estimated the ring is worth around £207,000. However, due to its legacy being the engagement ring of the longest ever reigning monarch, its value is no doubt priceless.

Prince William and Prince Harry were undoubtedly inspired by their grandfather when they proposed to their girlfriends.

The two Princes also used their mother’s jewellery to craft their wives’ engagement rings, both using gemstones owned by Princess Diana.

The Duke of Cambridge gave Kate Middleton his mother’s own engagement ring from 1981, featuring a blue sapphire.

Prince Harry sourced a diamond from Botswana for his engagement ring to Meghan Markle and used two diamonds from Diana’s jewellery collection to go either side.
