The Queen joked that there is one colour she could never wear
The image that the Royal Family sends out to the public is hugely crucial because it forms the basis of people’s opinions on them, as well as the purpose they serve.
As the head of the family, it is the Queen’s job to be visible to her subjects and has herself admitted: “I have to be seen to be believed”.
In order to pull of this important duty, the Queen has an incredibly clever tactic to ensure she can never be missed or confused in a crowd.

The Queen herself is not someone who follows a set colour scheme and is instead incredibly famous for her vibrant coats and matching hats.
One of the Queen’s most important duties is to be visible in crowds, it is vital that she is not missed- this serves as both a security purpose and for the benefit of the public.
In his 2011 biography Our Queen, royal author Robert Hardman described the Queen as “engagingly modest” and detailed the one colour of the rainbow that she will never wear.

He wrote: “My favourite remark she ever said was, ‘I can ever wear beige because nobody will know who I am.’”
So, if you had ever wondered why you very rarely see the Queen in anything other than her traditional electric colour palette- that is why.
While the Queen must be immediately distinguishable, other members of the family appear to opt for another technique.
Many royals- such as the Cambridge family- seem to colour coordinate their outfits when they are out in public or in official photographs.
A favourite shade is almost certainly blue and there are several images that prove it.
Karen Haller, Behavioural Colour Psychology and author of The Little Book of Colour spoke to MyLondon about the Cambridge family’s clothing choices.
Haller said: “Wearing the same hue when the Cambridges are showing they are coming together as a family, representing themselves as a cohesive unit.
“When it comes to colour psychology darker blues communicates you are in a position of authority, trustworthy, reliable and can be depended on. You have a sense of duty and take that seriously with committed focus.”
She continued: “There is also an adverse side to blue and that is you can come across as aloof and distant so they don’t want to inadvertently create the feeling that they are unapproachable.”
