The price of Pret’s monthly coffee subscription service just went up
Coffee lovers, brace yourselves.
The price of Pret’s monthly coffee subscription service has gone up by £5.
However, Pret has now increased the subscription to £25 a month from today (February 3) – in line with the government’s recent VAT increase.
The rise has come into effect today for new customers, whereas those already part of the scheme will notice the price hike on March 16.
It’s safe to say the move has been met with a lot of disappointment from customers.
However, others have pointed out that it’s still a good deal for the price, considering Pret subscription members can still claim up to 150 coffees a month.
It’s also not limited to coffees – as the service permits Cold Brew, tea, hot chocolate, smoothies, frappes and iced coffees (including any milk alternatives, syrups and extra shots).
Pret’s hot drinks range from £1.60 for a filter coffee to 3.65 for a hot chocolate.
But, as an example of the value, if you picked up a regular £3.55 latte every day, you’d soon make your money back after seven days of buying coffees (on your eighth day).
So you would have the other three weeks of the month to bag free hot drinks – and that’s if you only have one drink per day on that first week.
Also, despite the price increase, it’s worth pointing out that new customers will still get the first month for free.
A Pret spokesperson said: ‘Since we launched the Pret coffee subscription in 2020, prices for ingredients such as coffee beans and milk have gone up, VAT is increasing to 20%, and we’ve invested in additional pay for Pret Team members.
‘We believe the coffee subscription continues to offer great value.’
