The Outlast Trials – How To Cure Psychosis

Escaping from enemies and completing trials with possibly high grades aren’t the only things you need to worry about in The Outlast Trials. Psychosis is a dangerous mental state you may run into when you play this game, as it can potentially kill your character. You will begin to hallucinate and may be followed by the Skinner Man, with rather unpleasant consequences. However, this state is not irreversible and can be cured. Here’s how.

What is psychosis in The Outlast Trials?

Psychosis is a negative mental state which can occur in The Outlast Trials. When affected by psychosis, you will experience hallucinations in the game, and a sinister enemy called the Skinner Man will start following and haunting you. You cannot hide from him; he will follow you even through walls. If he catches you, he will inevitably drain your health.

You can lose your sanity and get psychosis by inhaling noxious green gas, which can happen in several ways. This gas can leak from landmines, as they are randomly placed throughout every map. If you step near them, you will activate their effect. This can also happen if you trigger other traps in the game, usually placed near locked doors and boxes.

Moreover, your character will inhale this poisonous gas if you fail to get the proper timings on lockboxes. An enemy called the Pusher can also spray you with this gas if he catches you. He wears a gas mask, so you can easily recognize him and try to escape and hide. You’ll know he’s coming because an alarm will consistently be reproduced when he exits the metal doors and enters the trial zone.

How to cure Psychosis

Fortunately, Psychosis is not permanent in The Outlast Trials and can be cured. You can do this in different ways. The first and most straightforward is to use an antidote. It will restore all your sanity and stop the adverse effects caused by psychosis. You can usually find this inside first aid boxes and cabinets.

Alternatively, you can continue running away from the Skinner Man until the full psychosis effect is gone. In this state, other enemies won’t attack you; your only concern will be the Skinner Man. If he manages to catch you, your health will be slowly depleted, and you can die from this. But if you escape from this enemy, you won’t have to worry about him unless you get resprayed with poisonous gas. Remember that while you are in a state of partial psychosis, monsters in the trials can still haunt, catch and harm you. Only full psychosis temporarily frees you from other foes, but you’ll have to worry about the deadly Skinner Man in return.

Finally, you can also cure psychosis with the Heal Rig if you have upgraded it to level 5, called Detox. With this, the healing gas will serve as an antidote as well. It is, indeed, one of the best upgrades for the Rigs in The Outlast Trials. Remember that you must have the Heal Rig equipped to use it.
