The next Apple Watch may tell you if you have fever – Times of India
Over the years, the Apple Watch has cemented its position as the world’s best-selling smartwatch. A lot of it is down to how well it works with the iPhone and the health, and fitness features it is equipped with. Every year Apple adds certain new features to improve its smartwatch. This year it is expected that Apple will launch the Watch Series 8 and rumours of what it may bring aboard have been flying thick and fast. The latest comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
In his weekly newsletter for Bloomberg, Gurman suggests that Apple Watch this year could get a body temperature feature. Gurman explained that it won’t act like a thermometer but will tell users if they have a fever. “The body-temperature feature won’t give you a specific reading—like with a forehead or wrist thermometer—but it should be able to tell if it believes you have a fever. It could then recommend talking to your doctor or use a dedicated thermometer,” revealed Gurman.
Sensors are at the heart of the Apple Watch’s health features and the body temperature could rely on a new sensor. Having said that, Apple will have to get FDA approval for this feature. Like the blood oxygen sensor, the body temperature could give you an idea but not give accurate medical information. Apple — for all its health features — categorically states that they are more of indicators rather than accurate diagnoses and that users should see a doctor if any reading doesn’t look good.
It is rumoured that Apple will launch three new smartwatches in 2022. These models will include an updated version of Apple Watch Se, Apple Watch Series 8 and an all-new rugged edition of its smartwatch. It is likely that the Watch SE will not get the body temperature feature but the other two models will.
