Wild Isles will be shown on the BBC next month, with the BBC showcasing Britain’s best wildlife, mostly in locations that can be reached without the need for a flight.

In the series, Sir David will announce: “I have travelled the world, I have seen the planet’s greatest natural spectacles, and I can assure you that in the British Isles there is drama and spectacle to match anything I have seen in my global travels.”

There will be five episodes of the show, taking in an array of the British Isles, revealing some of the best wildlife right here in the UK and Ireland.

Among the places David visits are coastal places like Northumberland, where he reveals puffins and other seabirds.

Places like Seahouses and Lindisfarne are home to the black and white birds with their characteristic colourful beaks.

The region is also home to dolphins, whales and grey seals.

Seabirds will also be the subject of David’s visit to Skomer island in Wales, where lizards can also be found.

The area is described as the “most important seabird site in southern Britain with maritime grassland, lusher inland vegetation, streams and man-made ponds”.

It also boasts stunning views and clear blue waters.

Attenborough will also visit the Cambridgeshire fens, where wild horses can be found.

The area is known as the “Holy Land of the English” because of its location between a number of historical churches and cathedrals.

The fens are also very close to the Norfolk coastline, offering beach trips for visitors, as well as a diverse number of species.

Further south, David is also set to pay a visit to Dorset’s stunning Studland Bay.

The area boasts four miles of unspoiled sandy beaches with sheltered bathing waters, backed by dunes and low cliffs.

Seahorses and masked crabs are two of a number of interesting sea-life species that can be found around the bay.

Elsewhere, Attenborough will visit Killarney in Ireland, where red deer have been rutting in the beautiful County Kerry countryside for thousands of years.

The town sits on the shores of Lough Leane, the largest of three lakes in the region.

David is also set to head north to Scotland in the series, visiting the Hebrides and to Shetland.

The rugged archipelagoes offer more beautiful beaches and wildlife, as well as spectacular scenery.

The show’s series producer Hilary Jeffkins told Countryfile that David was as excited about filming throughout the British aisles as he would’ve been in any exotic location.

He said: “David was very enthusiastic and excited to be filming in Britain and seemed to enjoy it just as much, if not more than some of his adventures abroad.

“He was in his element amongst the puffins and shearwaters on Skomer.”
