The moment Villa goalkeeper Olsen was assaulted during Man City pitch invasion

Footage has emerged pinpointing the exact moment Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen was assaulted as Manchester City fans took to the pitch at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening.

City produced the most dramatic of comebacks to retain their Premier League crown. However, the full-time whistle prompted a pitch invasion that was tainted by unsavoury scenes as the Villa players attempted to leave the field.

After the match, Villa manager Steven Gerrard claimed that Olsen had been attacked. Videos of the incident have since emerged on social media, with the Swedish goalkeeper seen attempting to leave the field alongside a steward before being pushed in the back. Shortly after, Olsen appears to clutch his face as more fans begin to surround him as they head towards the centre of the pitch.

Speaking about the incident post-match, Gerrard said: “My goalkeeper was attacked and I think those questions should go to Pep [Guardiola] and Manchester City. We’ll go and check if he’s okay now.”

A statement released by City added: “Manchester City would like to sincerely apologise to Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who was assaulted after the final whistle at today’s match when fans entered the pitch. The club has launched an immediate investigation and once identified, the individual responsible will be issued with an indefinite stadium ban.”
