The meal David Moyes banned at Man Utd despite Sir Alex Ferguson loving it

ONE of David Moyes’ first acts as Manchester United manager was to ban a popular canteen meal, reports claim.

Moyes took over from Sir Alex Ferguson in July 2013 and spent an ill-fated ten months in charge.

And one of the first things he did was ban fish fingers, chips, and mushy peas.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim the decision did not go down well with many of the squad.

The meal was also said to be one of Ferguson’s favourites.

Legendary United boss Fergie is said to have often opted for a fish finger and mushy peas sandwich over the more fancy dishes on offer during his days in charge.

But under Moyes the meal was suspended from the canteen at the club’s Carrington HQ.

The now West Ham boss is claimed to have believed the simple dish did not fit in with the stature of a club like the Red Devils.

Moyes was sacked in April 2014 with the club seventh in the Premier League table.

Ryan Giggs took over as caretaker manager – and immediately reinstated fish fingers, chips and beans to the canteen.

Former United massage therapist Rod Thornley recently suggested getting rid of chips from the canteen was one of two things that “completely ruined” Moyes during his time in charge.

Thornley told the Under The Cosh podcast on Moyes last month: “He stopped me doing 40-yard pings with Wayne [Rooney] and the chips, getting rid of the chips from the canteen.

“I think those are the two things that completely ruined him at United.”
