The makers of Jug Jugg Jeeyo respond to singer Abrar Ul Haq’s plagiarism claims about Nach Punjaban
Jug Jugg Jeeyo is garnering quite the buzz since its first full-length trailer arrived. The film, backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, and directed by Raj Mehta, features a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Neetu Kapoor. While the trailer offered a glimpse of what’s in store, the film’s makers landed in hot water over plagiarism accusations.
Abrar Ul Haq, a Pakistani singer, has reportedly accused the makers of Jug Jugg Jeeyo for plagiarising his song Nach Punjaban which was featured in the trailer. He also claimed that he will take the issue to court. The music label behind the song has responded to the plagiarism allegations in an official statement. They dropped the statement in a Tweet captioned, “We have legally acquired the rights to adapt the song #NachPunjaban released on iTunes on 1st January 2002 & available on Lollywood Classics’ YouTube channel, owned by @1Moviebox, for #JugJuggJeeyo produced by @DharmaMovies”. Check it out here:
Earlier, in a Tweet, singer Akbar Ul Haq wrote, “I have not sold my song ‘Nach Punjaban’ to any Indian movie and reserve the right to go to court to claim damages. Producers like @karanjohar should not copy songs. This is my 6th song being copied which will not be allowed at all. @DharmaMovies @karanjohar”

Meanwhile, an Indian scriptwriter has also alleged that the plot of Jug Jugg Jeeyo which tackles the subject of divorce, is copied from a script he had sent to Dharma Productions back in 2020.
Had registered a story.. #BunnyRani with @swaindiaorg in January 2020. I had officially mailed @DharmaMovies in February 2020 for an opportunity to co-produce with them. I even got a reply from them.
And they have taken my story.. and made #JugJuggJeeyo. Not fair @karanjohar.

It remains to be seen if the plagiarism claim is legit and how the production house will respond.
Jug Jugg Jeeyo is a family comedy revolving around a reunion at a wedding. In it, a couple Kuku (Varun Dhawan) and Naina (Kiara Advani) mutually decide to divorce each other. Meanwhile, Kuku’s father, Bheem (Anil Kapoor) also wants to leave his wife Geeta (Neetu Kapoor). The film arrives in theatres on June 24 this year.
