The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power teaser is full of spectacles and Tolkien lore

After weeks of waiting, the teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power, is finally out. The spin-off show is set in the Second Age, which is roughly thousands of years before the action of the Lord of the Rings films. It delves into the history of the people of Middle-earth—humans, elves, dwarves, harfoots (the ancestors of hobbits) and more.

The teaser of The Rings of Power begins with a voice-over that says, “There was a time when the world was so young, there had not yet been a sunrise. But even then there was light,” setting up the show’s timeline. It introduces the younger version of Galadriel (played by Morfydd Clark) and reveals a looming threat that could end all life. From the previous films, we know that the threat is none other than Sauron. Galadriel also tells Elrond (played by Robert Aramayo) about her terrifying visions, which we see in the clip.

The trailer unleashes some stunning visuals, to say the least. It also offers a glimpse at some new characters alongside some familiar names.

The Rings of Power

The show’s official synopsis reads: This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
