The Last of Us Part II Might Soon Get New Editions, According to Its Composer
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II might soon receive new editions. The surprising news came from a credible source: award-winning Argentinian composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who wrote the music for the two franchise games and for the HBO TV adaptation, too.
In a new interview, Santaolalla speaks about his cameo in The Last of Us Part II and adds:
In the new editions you can make me play certain themes and, well, I can’t tell you anything else.
In the original game, Santaolalla appeared in front of the Copper Peak Inn in the safe haven of Jackson, Wyoming. However, players cannot interact with Santaolalla’s in-game character (who’s playing a song) in any way.
This could mean that a new version of the game for new platforms such as PlayStation 5 and PC is being prepared. The game already got a 60FPS mode on PlayStation 5 in May 2021, but Naughty Dog promised back then that more PS5 improvements would be coming.
The team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and we’re excited about what the future holds. This patch is just the first step of working on the PS5. We’ll let you know when we’ve got more news to share!
It may finally be time for those improvements. The most exciting part would be the PC release, though. Naughty Dog already put out two of their releases on PC (Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and The Last of Us Part I) in the span of five months.
The Last of Us Part II launched on June 19th, 2020 for PlayStation 4. It earned a 9.5 out of 10 score from Wccftech reviewer Kai Powell.
There isn’t a single other game available on PlayStation 4 that can capture the bleakness of what Naughty Dog has created with this experience, save for the first The Last of Us. It’s a harrowing narrative that can club you in the face with the message that this world just isn’t fair for anyone. From a critical opinion, The Last of Us Part II is one of the finest pieces of cinematic gaming ever created, but Naughty Dog’s final sendoff to this console generation might leave you crying in the shower.
As of June 2022, the game had sold over ten million units.
