Located in the harbour of Glengarriff, Bantry Bay in Cork, the ferry ride, costing €5, is an experience in itself.

It is home to some adorable seals and is one of the best places to go seal spotting.

As you sail towards Garnish Island, you will pass “Seal Island” with over 250 resident harbour seals.

Garnish Island is dubbed around the world as a garden of great beauty.

The sheltered pristine waters are the perfect place for a Wild Atlantic sea swim.

Explore the numerous walks and gardens sprawling across the island.

The Italian Garden is blooming with exotic fuchsias, camellias and scented Rhododendrons.

Stroll down the Happy Valley to the Grecian Temple which overlooks the sea and Caha Mountains.

The island is home to a Martello Tower which is freely accessible.

Climb the winding stairs to discover the breath-taking views of the island.

The family drew up a remarkable plan to transform the rugged island into the beautiful sanctuary it is today.

“The Italian and Walled Garden have beautiful and colourful planting.

“We were greeted by Denis when we landed who was friendly and informative about the island.”

One visitor added: “A hidden gem in Bantry Bay, lovely gardens, very quiet but plenty of bird-singing.

“Some areas have steep steps or slopes to get to them but the views are worth it.”

While another added: “One of the best attractions Cork has to offer.

“The beautiful Garnish Island is a treasure that keeps on giving.
