A SUNNY day by the seaside is on everyone’s to do list this summer – and this breathtaking island is the ideal destination.
The magnificent Inis Mor Island is located just off the west coast of Co Galway.

And it’s is arguably one of the most spectacular places to visit in Ireland.
Inis Mor means “big island” in Irish.
The name gives way to the fact that the island is the largest of the three Aran Islands.
There are two options when it comes to travelling to Inis Mor – you can fly there, or you can take the Inis Mor ferry.
But the most popular way to reach the island is the ferry service.
Just 20 minutes from Galway city, you will find the Rossaveel ferry.
It will take you from Rossaveal to Inis Mor in 40 minutes.
The ferry runs daily and in the summer months it will take three trips a day to the islands.
An adult return ticket will cost around €30 – visitors are advised to book in advance due to the busy summer schedule.
COASTAL VIEWS
Once you reach the glorious island, you will find the picturesque beach of Cill Mhuirbhigh.
The golden sandy sheltered beach is a very popular spot for tourists due to its safe swimming waters.
Have a stroll along the seafront and take in the breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Or why not take walk down to the seal colony viewing point near the top of the beach at Portmurvy.
The Inis Mor shores are home to many wonderful seals – this a great experience for those who love sea creatures.
And it’s the perfect spot to bring a picnic for the family to enjoy.
SCENIC TRAILS
As well as its picturesque ocean views, Inis Mor boasts some fantastic walking trails.
Starting at the stunning Kilronan Harbour, the trail takes about three hours to complete on average.
Hikers will experience the views of ancient Ireland as they pass Dun Eochla.
Its ringforts are all very much in tact and the nearby lighthouse can’t be missed either.
Pop into the Teach Nan Phaidi Tea House along the way and enjoy a delicious lunch and a pint of Guinness to quench the thirst before you head up hill towards Dun Aoghasa.
Perched on top of the spectacular 100 metre high cliffs is the Dun Aoghasa fort – which is believed to be over 3,000 years old.
Visitors are sure to be amazed at the stunning beauty of old ancient Ireland – the views will really takes you back in time.

Inis Mor is the perfect location to spend a few relaxing days exploring this summer, and luckily there are some fantastic places the rest your head.
