Materials such as acrylic, ABS, foam board, and nylon are all used for prototyping, but the materials will differ depending on the final product e.g. clothes will use different fabrics and cloth to prototype compared to architectural models, prosthetics etc. Also, prototypes don’t always have to be physical models, but can also be programmed on CAD/CAM software and then 3D printed.

All these forms of prototyping provide a visual aid on what the final product will look like and can give guidance to the product’s sizing, accessibility, etc. Prototypes are used for apps, tables, clothes, phones, and many other types of products spanning all industries.
