The Hennessey Mammoth is the world’s fastest motorhome with a 1000hp
HAVE you ever been in a motorhome and felt it needed to be able to go from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds?
No? Neither have we. But that doesn’t matter, because American tuning firm Hennessey have made one anyway.
To be honest, ‘motorhome’ is a bit strong; the Hennessey Mammoth 1000 TRX is really a pick-up truck with a tent on the back.
But ‘overlanding’ has gained massive popularity in the US and around the globe, and the 4×4 Mammoth is the ultimate tool for the job.

Overlanding is essentially off-road exploration on four wheels with the ability to stop and spend the night in your vehicle.
The Mammoth is based on a Dodge Ram 1500 truck, but that Ram is then tuned by Hennessey to a crazy 1012hp.
A basic Hennessey TRX is around £130,000 before you add the tent and extras you need for overlanding – that’s an extra £15,000.
That gets you a hard-shell rooftop tent, a retractable awning, extra fuel tanks and a water reservoir.
There’s a retractable ladder that gets you to the sleeping area and you can add options like a splitting axe, a shovel and LED lamps.
To help is fly on the rough stuff is has been lifted even further from the ground and has bumpers that are angled to steer clear of boulders.
Add 35-inch off-road tyres, a bull bar and front LED lamps and you’ve got the fastest, toughest off-road motorhome on the planet.
Under the bonnet is a 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine with a whopping great supercharger attached to it.
Hennessey reckons that the Mammoth will crack a 1/4-mile drag strip run in just 11.4 seconds.
To put that into context, some supercars would struggle to keep up.
Just please don’t try it while your other half is having a lie-in.
